We reached out to one 40year old widow this December, Mrs. Pamela who lost her husband to the cold hands of death due to lack of finances for medication and malnutrition. Her story was a very sad one as she is blind and has 4 kids (2girls and 2boys). She explained that it was a stray bullet that damaged her eye on her way back from the farm in the evening. And all this occurred when her husband was still alive. After her husband died she was rejected by everyone in the quarter. No one came to help out. They ate food without oil or seasoning cubes or salt. It was so sad to hear her story. But the team educated her kids on personal hygiene, clean and swept her compound, renovated her bed and bedroom, her living room, her toilet, repainted her doors, windows and furniture, built and cleaned her well. We also provided a new mattress, bedsheets, clothes, footwear, mosquito nets, cutlery, pots, food items, school materials, Day 1 started at 10am with about 10 volunteers, we had her house cleaned painted her doors, windows and furniture, constructed her toilet with zinc and planks, swept her compound, did her laundry and ended the day at about 6pm. About 15 volunteers arrived for Day 2 at 10am still with all the items we bought for her and her family. We also constructed and purified her well using cement salt and other chemicals. We also finish constructing her toilets. Folded and packed the laundry we did the previous day, made up her bed with the new sheets we bought. We had the most joyful experience ever when we presented the items we brought for her. She prayed sung and blessed us all. She had a friend who was also present on that day in her living room. So we gave the friend a few items too. Her kids also said some words of appreciation. We all sang praise songs to God with grateful hearts and loud voices. This was our first community service ever. Our goal was to provide her with the basic needs she never had though w could not meetup to her every need but we got the essentials our budgets could afford and make her feel she is not an outcast and she is not alone in this world but we are with her and we love her dearly. Setting up her poultry was one of her desires we were unable to satisfy. We look forward to revisiting her in the future again. The team brought along some cooked food too so a fellowship lunch was organized at her home were the volunteers and family members all ate together. We departed at 6pm with everyone arriving safely at their homes. We want to appreciate God for yet another successful project.
