This project was carried out on the 26th February 2022 at Good Memory Bilingual Nursery and Primary School Ntankah. It was aimed at providing food items for 100 IDP kids at Good Memory. The board members available for this project were; Ndum Denning and Ngong Wendy and accompanied by three volunteers; Adel, Nidelle and Cynthia.
On the 26th of February 2022, the departure time (9 am) set for the project wasn’t respected due to some technical reasons. The head mistress of the school, Madam Vivian brought along a taxi to the house where the items were kept. They were packed in the taxi and by 9:50 a.m. we were on our way.
Arrival at the school was 10:25a.m. and we were given a warm welcome by the teachers and pupils of the school, who sang a welcome song and later on their school anthem. The items were displaced and the children were asked to go back to their classes while we carried out a general inspection of the school, kitchen and eating utensils for the children. The Head mistress showed us the plates, cups and spoons for the pupils and staff, then we later on went to her house so that we could inspect her kitchen which was where the meals would be prepared. After the inspection, we were all satisfied as everything needed for preparing the meals and eating were intact. We later on went back to school and decided that we let the children sit in their classrooms while we visit each class.
We began with, Primary 5 and 6 , where were introduced ourselves and to switch things up, we gave them a small lesson to do WORD BUILDING AND PRONUNCIATION, which had to be marked and later on corrected. While they were doing this Exercise, we went ahead to Primary 2 and 3 class, introduced ourselves and we also had the opportunity to give them a lesson which was based on identifying the types of animals from the description of some of their characteristics that was given. The kids had fun while answering the questions and finally we went to the class 1 and 2 classroom where the nursery 1 and 2 kids were asked to join them. At this point we asked the children to teach us some rhymes and from the rhymes we removed a lesson from there for the kids. We later on left from there and went back to the Primary 5 and 6 class, where we marked and did corrections of the exercise that was given to them.
After introducing ourselves in all the classes, the children were asked to go back outside and stand on their lines so that the items we brought could be presented. The Head mistress gave us an opening prayer and went on to appreciate the help SMILES AFRICA has shown towards her and the school in general. She also introduced the head of the community council called Mrs. Margaret, who also got the chance to appreciate everything that the organization has done, not only with the Nutrition program but with the SANTA BOX PROJECT too. After they had spoken, Denning was given the opportunity to talk on behalf of the team. He went ahead to encourage the children to work hard and produce very good results.
When the presentation of items was done, the kids were given some time to have fun with good music while we prepared what we got for them. When it was done, they were asked to get back into their classes in order to share what we brought for them to eat (PG and Tiara) and after that, we all went back outside to say good bye #SMILESAFRICA# to the kids. Pictures were taken with the children and staff and farewell song was sang by the kids and we also had the opportunity to sing a farewell song to them too. They all went home with smiles on their faces and were especially excited with the fact that they will start eating food the next week. The head mistress entertained us with a lovely meal and by 1:30 p.m. we were on our way back.
To conclude, the Nutrition program at Good Memory Bilingual Nursery and Primary School was a success, considering the fact that all are requirements were made and the children and teachers all left with their faces full of smiles.
